Theory
Taking the WSET level 2 course will give you a good overview of the world of wine. In the lessons we discuss the main grape varieties, the different wine styles and the regions where the grapes are grown. In addition, the growing of the grapes and the making of the wine are also discussed. We teach you how certain winemakers choices in the cellar affect the flavor profiles of the wines that we will be tasting.

wine are also discussed. We teach you how certain winemakers
choices in the cellar affect the flavor profiles of the wines that
we will be tasting.
All theoretical knowledge you need to pass the exam can be found in
the supplied study book and study guide. You will be asked to read
through a number of chapters in preparation of the next lesson so
that you are familiar with what will be discussed. We recommend
that you take about 2 hours a week to study the course materials.
The textbook is not thick, but very condensed. Almost everything in
it is relevant information.
Tasting
Although blind tasting in this level is not yet part of the exam,
the systematic approach to tasting of the WSET will receive a lot
of attention. With the help of your WSET certified teacher, you
will gradually become more accustomed to this analytical way of
assessing the different wines. In order to understand what we taste
and where certain flavors come from, we always make connections
between the theory from the textbook and what we find in our glass.
At Amsterdam Wine Academy you can be sure that you will get to
taste some fantastic wines. But we also pay attention to wines that
can be found at the lower end of the market. This is necessary to
learn to judge the quality of each wine.
Exam
The exam of the WSET level 2 in wine course consists of 50 multiple
choice questions. Of these, at least 28 must be answered correctly
to pass. The blind tasting of wine is not yet part of the exam at
this level. We give the opportunity to take a resit at least twice
a year.
NB It is not necessary to take WSET level 1 before enrolling
WSET level 2.
