The Linux/UNIX Fundamentals training is the ideal starting point
for anyone who wants to get hands-on with Linux-based systems.
Developed by the open-source experts at AT Computing and
exclusively available via Vijfhart, this course provides a
practical introduction to the world of Linux. GNU/Linux is a
powerful and versatile operating system that forms the foundation
of servers, cloud environments, and modern technologies worldwide.
A large part of the internet runs on Linux, and your smart vacuum
cleaner, Android device, or even your car probably can’t do without
it. As open-source software, Linux is continuously improved by a
global community of developers, making it reliable, secure, and
efficient. Step by step, you learn how this powerful system works
and why it is so well-suited for servers, automation, containers,
cloud environments, and modern applications.
The course begins with an introduction to Linux and UNIX, their
history, variations, and the role of the kernel. You learn how the
terminal and different shells work and start practicing with basic
commands such as echo, date, and who. From there, you move on to
essential and advanced file management—creating, viewing, copying,
renaming, deleting, and organizing files and directories. You also
work with regular expressions and grep, study filename expansion,
and learn how to use the vi editor to edit text files.
The course also covers I/O redirection and pipes, showing how to
combine commands into powerful workflows. You explore process
management (ps, top, kill, nice), shell variables, and simple
scripts. You also look into filesystem management, disk usage,
search commands, and working with links. Filters such as sort,
uniq, cut, wc, and tr are covered, as well as file comparison tools
like diff and cmp. Finally, you focus on permissions, user
management, and essential networking tools such as remote login
(ssh), secure copy (scp), and rsync. Step by step, you build a
solid foundation in Linux and UNIX.
Throughout the course, you complete hands-on exercises in a
practical lab environment. You practice using commands in the shell
and write your first scripts, immediately putting theory into
practice. You learn how to combine commands efficiently, manage
user permissions, and use networking tools effectively. This way,
you develop directly applicable skills that are valuable for system
administration and workflow automation on Linux-based systems.
This course is guaranteed to run.
Doel :
By the end of the course, you can work confidently with the command line, manage files, set permissions, and install software. You have mastered the fundamentals of Linux and UNIX, giving you a strong foundation to grow further toward system administration, cloud engineering, or security.
Doelgroep :
The Linux/UNIX Fundamentals course is intended for anyone who wants to learn the basics of Linux and UNIX, including system administrators, application administrators, software developers, platform engineers, cloud engineers, Ops engineers, security specialists, AI engineers, Dev(Sec)Ops engineers, and network administrators.
Voorkennis :
There is no prior knowledge required.
