A 2-day Advanced Power BI training focusing on DAX, context understanding, data modelling, and interactive reporting. - ABIS

The Power BI Advanced course is aimed at advanced users already familiar with the basics of Power BI. During this intensive training, participants will deepen their knowledge of DAX, correctly setting up data models, and building powerful, visually appealing dashboards. The course covers real-world scenarios and practical examples to strengthen participants’ skills.

In this course you will

• learn to understand and apply the DAX language for complex calculations;
• gain insight into different types of context in DAX;
• set up a solid data model, including a date table;
• understand the difference between calculated column and measures;
• efficiently use CALCULATE, FILTER, and iterator functions;
• work with passive relationship and USERRELATIONSHIP;
• use DAX variables and parameters;
• build cumulative columns and compare targets vs actuals;
• enrich reports with bookmarks, tooltips and drill-trough pages;
• use Time Intelligence functions (YTD, MTD, YoY, Rolling Averages).

Intended for

User who are going to leverage the advanced capabilities of Microsoft Excel Power BI, combining and querying various datasets, visualizing data outside of Excel, sharing data visualizations and dashboards online, learning how to handle larger datasets, and want to know more about DAX functions, such as: filter functions, Information functions, logical functions, statistical functions, mathematical and trigonometric functions, text functions, time iltenlligence functions, and so much more. 

Backgroud

Participants should have advanced knowledge of Excel and basic knowledge of Power BI (e.g., through the Power BI fundamentals).

• Row context.

Data modelling:

• Setting up a robust data model.
• Working with DAX Studio (basic).
• Creating a data table in DAX vs. Power Query.
• Using FILTER & ADDCOLUMNS.
• When and how to use a measure table.
• Apllying display folders.
• Differences between calculated columns and measures.
• When to use DAX and when to use power Query.
• Implicit vs. explicit measures.

CALCULATE - The Swiss Army Knife of DAX:

• Extensive use of CALCULATE with other filters.
• Using OR and AND.
• ALLSELECTED, ALLEXCEPT, VALUES functions.

Influencing Relationships with DAX:

• In Power Query: creating and using dynamic parameters, apllying them in template files.
• In DAX: creating and using parameters.

Cumulative column functions

• In Power Query: creating and using dynamic parameters, applying them in template files.
• In DAX: creating and using parameters.

Time Intelligence:

• Creating YTD / MTD functions.
  Comparing periods (YoY/MoM).

Training method

Live instructor-led training, with plenty of opportunities for practical excercises.

Delivered as a live, interactive training: available in-person or online, or in a hybrid format. Training can be implemented in English or Dutch.
